The Umbwe Route is the steepest and most direct route up Kilimanjaro. It is known for its dramatic ridges, dense rainforest, and challenging ascent. After joining the Machame Route at Barranco Camp, it follows the southern circuit with breathtaking views.
This 7-day itinerary provides better acclimatization, increasing summit success chances.

Climb the Barranco Wall in the morning, a fun scrambling route with great views. Descend and traverse through the Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp.

A final steep ascent to Barafu Camp, the base for the summit push. Rest and hydrate in preparation for the midnight climb.

Start the summit push around midnight. Reach Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Barafu briefly, then continue down to Mweka Camp.
