Steep climb through lush forest along narrow ridges. Quiet and adventurous trail with minimal traffic.
Overnight: Umbwe Cave Camp

Continue ascending ridges and valleys, merging with the Machame Route. Reach Barranco Camp with views of Kibo and the southern glaciers.
Overnight: Barranco Camp

Hiking Time: 3–5 hours optional
Habitat: Alpine Desert / Barranco Valley

Spend the day at Barranco Camp for acclimatization. Optional short hikes include:

  • Exploring the base of the Barranco Wall
  • Walking along nearby ridges for views of Kibo and Mawenzi
