The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and less crowded approaches to Kilimanjaro, starting from the western side. It passes through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and glacial zones. This 7-day itinerary is designed to allow good acclimatization, increasing summit success.
Start: Londorossi Gate
End: Mweka Gate
Highest Point: Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
Register at Londorossi Gate, then trek through lush rainforest with wildlife sightings. Short day to allow acclimatization.
Overnight: Big Tree Camp

Habitat: Moorland
Ascend gradually through the forest into open moorland and Shira Plateau. Camp at Shira 1.
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp
Highlights:

Habitat: Moorland / Alpine Desert
Continue across the plateau toward Shira 2 Camp. Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi.
Overnight: Shira 2 Camp

Trek across the moorland toward Barranco Camp. Optional acclimatization hikes near camp.
Overnight: Barranco Camp

Morning scramble over the Barranco Wall, then trek through Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp, base for summit attempt.
Overnight: Barafu Camp

Habitat: Arctic → Rainforest
Midnight start for summit attempt. Climb slowly to Stella Point and then to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Barafu briefly, then continue to Mweka Camp.
Overnight: Mweka Camp

Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Collect summit certificates and transfer back to Moshi.
