The Umbwe Route is the steepest and most direct approach to Kilimanjaro from the northern side. It passes through dense rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert, joining the Machame Route at Barranco Camp.
This 6-day version is shorter, faster, and requires trekkers to be well-acclimatized and fit.

Start with a steep, adventurous climb through dense forest and narrow ridges. Minimal traffic makes the trek peaceful.

Climb through ridges and valleys merging with the Machame Route. Arrive at Barranco Camp with excellent views of Kibo and Mawenzi.

Morning scramble over the Barranco Wall, then traverse ridges and valleys into Karanga Camp.
Overnight: Karanga Camp

A final steep ascent to Barafu Camp, where you rest and prepare for the midnight summit push.

Start the summit attempt around midnight. Reach Stella Point, then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. After taking photos, descend to Barafu for a short break and continue to Mweka Camp.

Habitat: Rainforest
Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive summit certificates and transfer back to Moshi.
